Today I went and met up with a friend I haven’t seen for awhile. Since I was going to her place, I had to take Bart. I never take Bart on a normal basis haha so whenever I do, I make sure to bring my camera. Overall, it was a fun night. Thanks for the food, Ally ❤

It kinda just hit me after a friend asked me what days I’m free… It’s Spring Break. I only have class twice a week so it’s not like it matters too much anyways, but yeah Spring Break. When I was a kid, I used to watch movies where people would go do wild, crazy shit during their Spring Break (I guess people actually do it.. It’s not just in the movies), but I really haven’t done anything like that. I guess since I’ve been working and stuff since I was 15/16 it never occurred to me that I should do anything special. To be honest, the last time I went on vacation (as in leaving the Bay Area) was probably around 3 years ago.

I’ve always felt like SF was categorically somewhere between a large city and a rural village in the sense that it’s pretty busy during the day but it’s dead as fuck during the night and there are really only 3 places in the city that stay busy with action (Downtown, Pier 39, and Chinatown in my opinion). I would really like to visit somewhere like NY or HK or go back to Tokyo where it’s really busy and there are plenty of people and light even when the sun sets. On the other hand, sometimes I think a place that is quiet and reserved yet culturally backwards than what I’m used to may be a good place to visit as well. As long as I have my camera then either would be cool haha.

So I’m currently writing this as I’m developing some film just cus I don’t wanna have to do it later haha. I don’t know about other people that self develop, but I like developing as much as I like shooting. I get a lot of time to just zone out to music and reflect on things. Shooting, developing, and running are like my therapeutic activities, ya know? Sometimes the noise and hustle&bustle of the “outside world” is just too much so it’s nice to be able to have alone time I guess. I put around ~12 rolls through the M5 so far that I need to scan, but I don’t know if I want to post any of it just yet. On the downside, I’m running out of film and I’m also broke as hell. Unless I can come up on some cheap, expired stuff on Craigslist again, then I’ll have to drop color film altogether and just shoot 1 roll of b/w a week and the rest be digital. I can’t stand the colors from digital cameras though. I mean, I guess they’re acceptable, but I much rather be shooting film.

My good friend Carmina has been telling me that she didn’t have any nice pictures of herself so since we were both free, we decided to do an impromptu shoot. I had to head to work so I couldn’t hit up a lot of locations that I had in mind, but I still managed to squeeze out (what I think are) a few good shots. I haven’t done like portrait type stuff in awhile so it was fun doing it again after so long. My editing is a little choppy from not using CS5 for so long but meh haha.

So my mom was released from the hospital today. Thanks for everyone who gave support.. I really appreciate it.

I spent the day at school, then grabbing food and shooting with the bro Sean and then drove my mom home.

I did a midterm presentation with my group for a photography class, too. It wasn’t bad in my opinion (we definitely just winged it), but there was this one chick who was trying to be super critical with her comments.. Some of them were valid, but others were her trying to sound smart. It’s like, your group presentation was a slideshow of horribly processed photos (think selective color and a bunch of photoshop composites that were totally irrelevant to their presentation) with a horribly done audio so how the fuck are you gonna try and sound so high and mighty? Ugh.

Today I woke up to calls from my relatives telling me my mom was in the ER. I threw on some clothes and booked it to the hospital to see what was up. It turns out she might need a blood transfusion so she is staying there for the night. She’s currently at St. Mary’s and if you know anything about me, you know that I hate St. Mary’s for a variety of reasons. Hopefully everything will work out okay.

After I left the hospital, I went to grab some food and shot with Sean to clear my head a bit. The shitty weather was throwing me off a little though and I stopped shooting around 20 frames in. Life is rough. Stay healthy everyone.

There’s been a lot on my mind lately. Things from the past, moments from the presents, thoughts about the future. One step at a time doesn’t work out when you’re walking down an up escalator.
